LaCreta Holland’s Winter/Spring Cooking Classes & More from SCASD

The State College Area School District Community Education schedule came out a few days ago. Homesteading-related offerings are in this post and also added to the full list at the Reskilling Workshops page.

Cost is $25 per cooking workshop or $90 for the four-course cooking series with Happy Valley Learn to Cook‘s LaCreta Holland.

  • January 29 – Cooking Healthy in 2013 with LaCreta Holland – Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. – “Simple meals using healthy ingredients like winter greens, whole grains and beans, including roasted winter vegetables, Tuscan baked beans & meatless meals.” Cost $25 per session, $90 for series.   • February 12 – Soups and Stews with LaCreta Holland – Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. – “…make potato/carrot soup, easy tomato soup and easy crockpot beef stew.” Cost $25 per session, $90 for series.   • March 12 – Pasta! Pasta! with LaCreta Holland – Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. – “…make spaghetti carbonara, baked orecchiette with tomatoes and mozzarella, and Florentine roll-ups.” Cost $25 per session, $90 for series.   • April 2 – Lighten up for Spring with LaCreta Holland – Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. – “…make a variety of side and main dish salads and make your own salad dressings too.” Cost $25 per session, $90 for series. Woodworking 101 runs for six Thursday evenings in March and April, covering “safe, effective use of primary power and hand tools including planer, joiner, table and arm saws, drill press, band saw, disc sander, jig saw, sander, saber saw, router and lathe.”

  • February 6 – 27 – Fresh Flower Arranging – Four Wednesdays, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Room 401 at the High School North Building. Cost: $95.(State College Area School District Community Education, 231-1062)
  • March 13 – April 10 (Excluding March 27) – Perennial Gardening – Four Wednesdays, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  “… create eye-catching beds and borders with perennials, bulbs and ornamental grasses, including basice planting concepts, design, plant material, compost and turf basics, pest management and a plant swap.” Cost: $75. Room 401 at the High School North Building. (State College Area School District Community Education, 231-1062)
