December 8 –  High Tunnel Product Marketing Workshop in Butler County (FREE)

Maximizing Your Profits and Protecting Your Investment –  9:30 AM – 12:00 PM.

Awareness of high tunnel season extension opportunities, land stewardship benefits, qualified installers, and funding options is increasing and so is the number of high tunnels on the Pennsylvania landscape. This workshop is designed to address questions about technology, support, and product marketing, and is part of an on-going high tunnel technical assistance program coordinated by Capital Resource Conservation & Development Area Council (Capital RC&D). This free event will address questions about marketing high tunnel product, especially that grown out of the traditional growing season and provide technical support through a tour and discussion about seasonal high tunnel maintenance.

Harvest Valley Farms in Valencia, PA (Butler County), site host, is known for growing and promoting Pennsylvania Simply Sweet® Onions in addition to using conservation techniques in the production of field and high tunnel produce marketed through their community supported agriculture program and farm market. Brothers and Harvest Valley Farm partners, Art and Larry King, will share information about marketing high tunnel products and provide insight into the farm’s operation. Art’s son and business partner David King will lead a tunnel tour showcasing current product and lead discussion about seasonal maintenance. A USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) staff person will also be on hand to provide detail and answer questions about high tunnel support in Pennsylvania.

REGISTER BY DECEMBER 7 – For more information contact Cheryl Burns at Capital RC&D at 717.241.4361 or via email. Registration information, directions and additional workshop details.
