Mapping Project Update & Meeting Nov. 29

Jackie Bonomo and Dorothy Blair have been coordinating a food mapping project for the last several weeks – Jackie presented a draft map at the Nov. 15 harvest feast. Here’s her email update from Nov. 17:

Bobby Raggazino and I have met and plotted most of the farms/farmers markets on the Buy Fresh Buy Local list, Pennsylvania Certified Organic list, and AgMap list on a Google Earth Map.

If you want to see a copy of the map at this point, let me know and I can send it to you (jabonomo@verizon.net). You’d need to download Google Earth first.

I have also contacted the USDA person responsible for gathering farm product statistics and she will be getting information to me on commodity crops/farm acreage for the county (as a whole, not by farm, due to confidentiality agreements.)

Dorothy Blair is having some of her nutrition students formulate a questionnaire to use in calling the 20-plus farms which did not have complete enough information for me to map them.

We’d like to schedule our next meeting for Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 5:45 p.m. at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 208 West Foster Avenue. Please let me know what items you have for adding to the agenda. I will compile and send out with a meeting reminder closer to the date.
