Fall 2011 Home School Days at Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center
Penn State’s Nature Center invites our Homeschooler friends from around Central Pennsylvania to two special days this fall! [As of Aug. 29] We still ha[d] some room in these programs, so call 814-863-2000 to register today!
Sept. 23 – Guided Nature Center Visit Day – The guided visit emphasizes animal characteristics, behavior, adaptations, and ways that humans can ensure animal survival. A Shaver’s Creek Educator will guide small groups of children from station to station. Each station will have a live animal or interesting props to see and touch. Among the live animals that the children will see are an amphibian, a snake, a turtle, a bird of prey, and perhaps a wild bat, too. Activities and information will be age appropriate.
Sept. 27 – Discovery Walk Day – Children will explore the out-of-doors with a Shaver’s Creek Educator. Children ages 5–7 will explore the forest using their senses on a Sensory Walk. Children ages 8–10 will explore the meadow and forest on an Insect Walk. Children ages 11–12 will explore forest and stream on a Watershed Walk.
