Green Planning in State College

From the June 1, 2011 Planning Commission Agenda, online here:

…B. GREEN Planning

Courtney Hayden, AmeriCorps volunteer to State College has developed a report on how to work toward addressing green zoning. This report was distributed at the May 12, 2011 meeting. Ms. Hayden presented the report to the Commission during the May 19, 2011 meeting. The Commission had a few questions related to the paper. Ms. Hayden has started to develop responses to those questions and it is attached to the agenda on (pgs. 22-28). The Green Planning Guide is also attached to this agenda on (pgs. 29-89).

It is anticipated that this is the first step in considering and possibly developing a green zoning ordinance or revise current ordinances to reflect the goals of the community in becoming more sustainable. Ms. Hayden has also developed a webpage to provide information and updates on progress made for this effort. The webpage is online here.

Planning Commission Action: Review the document and provide staff direction on how to continue this effort.

Staff Recommendations: Staff supports the effort.

The new momentum builds on Resolution 944, designating State College as a “Climate Protection Community,” adopted in 2007.

These issues will be the focus of a series of Planning Commission subcommittee public meetings, held at 5:30 p.m. in the municipal building at 243 South Allen St.:

  • June 9
  • June 16
  • July 21
  • July 28
  • August 11
  • August 18
